In preparation for the annual Fourth of July celebration in the United States, Mayor Adams of New York City has announced the distribution of 100,000 free tickets for residents to enjoy a close-up view of the grand Macy’s Independence Day fireworks show along the East River in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The fireworks display this year is set to take place on the evening of July 4th (Friday) above the East River, with the prime viewing location near the Brooklyn Bridge. All spectators entering Brooklyn Bridge Park and Piers 16 and 17 at the South Street Seaport in Manhattan will be required to have a ticket for entry.
On Sunday, Mayor Adams announced via social media that the first 2,500 residents who texted “FIREWORKS” to 917-909-2288 would have priority access to up to 4 tickets per person.
Remaining tickets will be available starting at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, July 1st. Each person can obtain up to 4 tickets for Brooklyn Bridge Park or 2 tickets for Piers 16 and 17, on a first-come, first-served basis. Access to Brooklyn Bridge Park will be strictly ticket-based. Certain sections of Manhattan’s FDR Drive will be open for free viewing to residents and visitors without tickets at the following entrances: Montgomery Street and Madison Street intersection; Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place and Brooklyn Bridge On/Off Ramp; Broad Street and Water Street intersection.
Mayor Adams emphasized in a statement on Monday, “Every New Yorker deserves to celebrate this nation’s birthday under the dazzling fireworks. This year, as we mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of New York City and prepare for the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding next year, 100,000 lucky residents will have the opportunity for prime viewing.”
