Fox News proposes hosting second presidential debate in October

Fox News confirmed on September 10th that they are proposing to host a second presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in October.

According to Fox News, the network has reached out to the campaign teams of Harris and Trump, proposing a 90-minute presidential debate to be moderated by anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, stating that they are the best choices to host this debate.

Following the conclusion of the first presidential debate between Harris and Trump in Philadelphia, Fox News announced this proposal.

On September 10th, during a debate aired by ABC News, the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates engaged in heated debates regarding key issues such as the economy, energy, abortion, immigration, and foreign policy (including the conflict in Ukraine).

“Since the first debate between former President Trump and Vice President Harris has already begun, Fox News is re-proposing,” wrote Fox News Media President Jay Wallace and Political Vice President Jessica Loker in a letter, “As stated by Harris’s campaign team, the American people will have another opportunity to see both of them on stage (clash) in October.”

Wallace and Loker presented three possible debate dates and locations: October 9th in Arizona, October 15th in Georgia, and October 16th in North Carolina.

Earlier in May, Fox News proposed hosting a debate between Trump and Harris and had reached out to both campaign teams.

While Trump agreed to this debate at that time, Harris indicated that she had accepted a debate hosted by ABC News.

Shortly after the debate on Tuesday, Harris’s campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon stated that the Vice President is prepared for a second debate.

In an interview with Fox News after the debate, Trump stated that it was “the best debate we have ever had” and mentioned that he would consider participating in a second debate with Harris.

Trump also remarked that Harris is pushing for a second debate because she lost and “wants a rematch.”

When Fox News host Sean Hannity asked whether he would be willing to confront Harris again, Trump said, “If it’s on a fair news network, I would do it.”

Wallace and Loker mentioned in their letter that if Fox News hosts the second debate, the candidates will stand behind podiums with no teleprompters or pre-written notes, and the podium placement and order of closing statements will be determined by a coin toss.

In conclusion, they stated, “Given the capabilities and reputation of Fox News Media, we sincerely invite all parties to discuss our proposal. We appreciate your consideration and look forward to the opportunity to facilitate informed political dialogue at this critical moment in our nation.”
