Four dead and twenty-three missing in Sichuan Kangding debris flow

In the early morning of August 3rd, a sudden mountain flood and mudslide occurred in Kangding, Sichuan Province, causing bridges to collapse and villagers’ houses to be washed away. This disaster has resulted in multiple casualties and missing persons. At least 4 people have been confirmed dead, with 23 others reported missing. Additionally, 16 people have been taken to hospitals for treatment.

According to official sources from the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, at 3:30 am on August 3rd, a mountain flood and mudslide struck the area of Guzana Town in Kangding City, Ganzi Prefecture. This event led to the collapse of bridges between the Dayi Tunnel No. 1 and No. 2 on the Kangding to Luding section of the Yacong Expressway, as well as the destruction of houses in Guzana Town, resulting in vehicles falling and individuals going missing.

As of 11:00 pm on August 3rd, it has been verified that four vehicles have crashed on the Yacong Expressway towards Ya’an, with a total of 11 people inside. Among them, one person has been rescued while 10 others remain missing.

Official reports early on August 4th stated that this disaster has resulted in 4 confirmed deaths, 23 missing persons, and 16 individuals receiving medical treatment.

According to CCTV news, due to the impact of the mountain flood and mudslide, a geological disaster occurred at the K120+200 section of the Luding to Kangding segment of the G4218 YaYe Expressway, leading to the closure of the road in both directions. Additionally, the G318 highway has also been cut off.
