Former Vice President of Peking University Born in the 1980s, Ren Yuzhong, Transferred to Judiciary

Breaking News: Former Vice President of Beijing University born in the 1980s, Ren Yuzhong, has been expelled from the Communist Party and relieved of his public position for violating discipline and laws, and has been referred to judicial authorities. Ren was formerly the “top scholar” in the liberal arts section of the college entrance examination in Sichuan Province.

According to the notice issued by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission on December 8, Ren Yuzhong was found to have accepted gifts and cash improperly, failed to report personal matters as required, used his position for personal gain in staff recruitment, held shares in non-listed companies in violation of regulations, abused public resources, engaged in corruption by exchanging power for money, and illegally accepted large amounts of money.

It was reported that Ren Yuzhong voluntarily surrendered himself for investigation on suspicion of serious violations of discipline and laws. His case is currently under review by the Communist Party’s disciplinary committee and the National Supervisory Commission.

As early as August 18, public information about Ren Yuzhong had been removed from the official website of Beijing University, indicating that he had been quietly dismissed. It was rumored that Ren Yuzhong voluntarily surrendered himself as early as July. His last public appearance was at a special study session held by the school’s party committee on July 13.

Public records show that Ren Yuzhong, born in January 1980 in Ziyang, Sichuan Province, was the top scholar in the liberal arts section of the college entrance examination in Sichuan Ziyang Middle School in 1998. He enrolled in the International Politics major at the School of International Relations at Peking University in 1998 and was recommended for graduate studies in Chinese and foreign political systems at the School of International Relations at Peking University in 2002. After obtaining his master’s degree, Ren Yuzhong continued to work at the university.

Ren Yuzhong previously held positions such as director of the Policy and Regulation Research Office of Peking University, director (concurrently) of the Party Committee Policy Research Office, Minister of Human Resources, Minister of the Party Committee Teachers’ Work Department, director (concurrently) of the Talent Exchange and Training Center, and director (concurrently) of the Teacher Talent Office. In 2020, Ren Yuzhong served as the Minister of the Party Committee Propaganda Department at Peking University, later becoming a standing member of the Party Committee, concurrently serving as Secretary-General, Minister of the Propaganda Department, spokesperson, director of the Integrated Media Center, and secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Sociology. In March 2024, he was promoted to Vice President of Beijing University.

Ren Yuzhong was valued at Peking University, mainly during the tenure of Hao Ping as President and Secretary of the Party Committee. Hao Ping served as President of Peking University from 2018 to 2022 and as Secretary of the Party Committee from June 2022 to February of this year. He currently serves as a vice chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress.
