On October 31st, former vice governor of Gansu Province, Yang Zixing, was sentenced for bribery and accepting bribes. The Intermediate People’s Court of Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, sentenced him to 13 years for bribery and 7 years for abusing his influence to accept bribes. After the combined sentence, he will serve 14 years in prison and pay a fine of 5 million yuan (RMB).
According to the court, from 2006 to 2024, Yang Zixing took advantage of his positions as Deputy Secretary of the Dingxi Municipal Committee of Gansu Province, Mayor, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Deputy Executive Minister of the Organizational Department of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee, and Vice Governor of Gansu Province. He used his authority and positions to provide benefits for certain units and individuals in engineering contracts, real estate development, job adjustments, etc., by illegally accepting a total of over 50.4 million yuan in cash through his relatives.
From the second half of 2019 to May 2024, Yang Zixing, leveraging the convenience provided by his former position as Vice Governor of Gansu Province before retirement, worked with other state employees to seek improper benefits in engineering contracts, project investments, and received over 8.57 million yuan in bribes through his relatives.
On June 12th of last year, Yang Zixing announced that he was under investigation, six years after stepping down as Vice Governor. In December, he was expelled from the Party, had his benefits revoked, and was handed over to the judicial authorities.
Public records show that Yang Zixing was born in Gansu’s Guyang in October 1959 and started working in March 1976. He held various positions in Gansu Province, serving as Deputy Secretary of the Longnan Municipal Committee, Mayor and Secretary of Dingxi City, and in 2013, he was appointed as the Deputy Executive Minister of the Organizational Department of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee. In 2015, Yang Zixing became the Vice Governor of Gansu Province.
Public reports indicate that in January 2018, Yang Zixing stepped down from his position as Vice Governor of Gansu Province.
