Former TVB artist Wu Bokun from Hong Kong passed away after suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis for seven years.

Hong Kong veteran artist Wu Bojun, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2018, passed away on July 2 at the age of 69. His funeral was held on July 14, with the news of his death confirmed by his widow on the fundraising page of the “Yau Ting Ho Charitable Foundation.”

His widow expressed that Wu Bojun had wished not to burden others with his condition during his lifetime, hence the delay in informing the public. Wu Bojun graduated from the 8th batch of TVB artist training class, alongside classmates like Tang Zhenye, Lee Sing Cheung, Liu Qizhi, and Chen Min’er. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous TV series, such as playing one of the “Peach Valley Four Saints” in the “Laughing in the Wind” starring Liang Jiaxing, portraying “Feng Bo’e” in the “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils” starring Wong Yat Wah, and as “General Yang Yizhi” in “Duke of Mountain Deer.”

Due to the downsizing caused by the 1997 financial crisis, Wu Bojun left the entertainment industry and took on various jobs such as working in a paper craft shop, bakery, and office cleaning.

In 2018, his life took a turn for the worse when he was diagnosed with ALS, plunging him into despair. Wu Bojun once described himself in an interview, “I can’t move in bed, but my mind is clear, that’s the most painful part, it’s like waiting for death. I even thought it would be better to die.” Since falling ill, he had been confined to a bed, requiring a wheelchair for mobility and regular hospital visits. In recent years, he had rarely been seen in public and was primarily cared for by his wife, who suffers from congenital infantile paralysis. To meet the high medical expenses, many in the industry lent a helping hand to Wu Bojun.
