“Former top tobacco executive Xu Xi detained for arrest, once led tobacco companies in 8 provinces.”

Former Communist Party member and Deputy Director of the Chinese National Tobacco Monopoly Administration, Xu Peng, has been arrested on suspicion of bribery, according to a December 6 report from the Communist Party’s Supreme Procuratorate. The investigation into Xu Peng has concluded and he has been referred to the procuratorate for examination and prosecution. The Henan Provincial Procuratorate made the decision to arrest him recently.

Xu Peng, who is 60 years old, has worked in the tobacco industry for 36 years, serving as the Chairman of China Tobacco Industry in provinces such as Yunnan, Zhejiang, and Hubei. In June 2010, he became the Party Secretary and Director of Jiangxi Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration. In July 2012, he was appointed as the Party Secretary, Director, and General Manager of the Beijing Municipal Tobacco Monopoly Administration. Over the course of ten years in the local tobacco system, Xu Peng’s resume includes positions in tobacco companies across 8 provinces.

In March 2014, Xu Peng was promoted to the position of Communist Party member and Deputy Director of the Chinese National Tobacco Monopoly Administration, a position he held until his investigation started in May this year.

In previous reports, it was highlighted that Xu Peng, the former Deputy Director of the Chinese National Tobacco Monopoly Administration, was expelled from the Party and removed from office for serious violations related to the tobacco industry.

The arrest of Xu Peng, a high-ranking official in the tobacco industry, has once again drawn attention to issues of corruption within the Chinese government and raised concerns about the integrity of officials in key positions. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law in China.
