On July 15th, Yan Jun, former deputy curator of the Shanghai China Navigation Museum, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 2 million yuan for accepting bribes totaling over 36.01 million yuan.
The Shanghai First Intermediate People’s Court publicly announced the verdict of Yan Jun, former deputy curator of the Shanghai China Navigation Museum on July 15th, and later released the above notice on its official WeChat public account.
According to the announcement, from 2009 to 2023, Yan Jun took advantage of his positions as assistant president, vice president, deputy party secretary, and president of the Shanghai Shipping Group to help individuals in matters related to route operations, business acquisition, company listing, expense settlement, and other activities, seeking personal gains and receiving illegal payments totaling over 36.01 million yuan.
At 57 years old, Yan Jun had been working at the Shanghai Shipping Group for a long time and became president in June 2014. After resigning on July 29, 2023, he was investigated on August 14 of the same year, and later expelled from the Party in December.
During Yan Jun’s tenure as president of the Shanghai Shipping Group, Chen Xuyuan was the party secretary and chairman of the group. Prior to Yan Jun’s investigation, Chen Xuyuan, who was then the Chairman of the Chinese Football Association, was also investigated in February 2023.
Reportedly, Chen Xuyuan took advantage of his positions as president and chairman of the Shanghai Shipping Group, leader of the Chinese Football Association’s succession preparation team, and other roles from 2010 to 2023 to accept bribes totaling over 81.03 million yuan (of which 4 million yuan was not actually received). In March 2024, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance.
