Former Inner Mongolian official Du Wen’s bank card emptied, Gao Yu and others under investigation for traveling

The Third Plenary Session of the Chinese Communist Party is currently being held in Beijing, and the party’s stability maintenance has extended from domestic affairs to overseas territories. Exiled former Inner Mongolian official Du Wen revealed that before the Third Plenary Session, the authorities in China blocked all his social media accounts and emptied his bank account. Additionally, prominent Beijing media figure Gao Yu and others have reportedly been “taken on a trip”, while many petitioners are under strict control.

The 20th Third Plenary Session of the Chinese Communist Party began on July 15 at the Jingxi Guesthouse in Beijing, lasting for four consecutive days. On the 15th, drone flights were prohibited within the administrative area of Beijing, and security around the Jingxi Guesthouse was tightened. A large number of police officers and plainclothes security personnel were seen on the streets of Beijing, rigorously checking people’s identification documents. At the same time, a “no-fly order” was issued.

On July 14, exiled former Inner Mongolian official Du Wen posted on Platform X, stating that on the eve of the Third Plenary Session, the Chinese authorities suddenly blocked his WeChat account and all his social media accounts in China.

“What’s even more ruthless is that the authorities emptied my bank account and seized my father’s hospital fee account through judicial deduction. Approximately 110,000 RMB for the late-stage cancer treatment was taken away, and my elderly father, in protest, has stopped taking targeted drugs…” he wrote.

He also said, “What’s most despicable is that the Chinese authorities also simultaneously blocked my wife’s TikTok account, @Inner Mongolian Weihua, resulting in a total loss of about 130,000 followers for Weihua and me.”

Du Wen was formerly the executive director of the Legal Advisory Office of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government, serving as the legal advisor to high-ranking officials in Inner Mongolia such as Yang Jing, Batu’er, and Hu Chunhua. He was accused of involvement in a case of bribery with public funds in the Inner Mongolian government, and due to refusing to plead guilty, was sentenced to 12 years and 8 months in prison. After being released in January 2023, Du Wen was still under surveillance and was forced to flee overseas. While abroad, Du Wen often revealed little-known insider information about the Chinese Communist Party’s officialdom on his social media and criticized the CCP system.

During every so-called major meeting of the Chinese Communist Party, dissidents within China become even more “sensitive figures”.

Hubei writer Liu Yiming posted on a platform overseas, indicating that Teacher Gao Yu has once again lost contact. She tried to call Gao Yu at 9 p.m. on July 14, and though the call went through, no one answered. Liu Yiming speculated that Gao Yu might have been controlled and wouldn’t appear in public these days, waiting for the activity to be over.

On July 15, a Beijing dissident informed Radio Free Asia that Cha Jianguo, He Depu, and all Beijing petitioners were under house arrest, with key figures like Gao Yu taken on a “tour”. “Gao Yu was taken on a tour last Thursday, and yesterday Zhang Baocheng was taken to Changbai Mountain, and Christian elder Xu Yonghai was taken to Dalian. Beijing petitioners were also placed under surveillance.”

Mr. Li, a resident of Beijing, told Epoch Times on the 14th that the control during this Third Plenary Session is extremely strict. A friend from Hebei, who is not a petitioner, received notice on the 12th that they were not allowed to enter or leave Beijing without reason.

He also disclosed that officials were inspecting security measures, “On the morning of the 13th, Line 1 of the Beijing Subway from Wanshou Road to Yuquan Road, the section near the Jingxi Guesthouse, ceased operation, with the station directly closed. It reopened around 2 p.m.”

A petitioner from Jintan District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, Yang Caiying, told Epoch Times on July 13 that her 71-year-old mother went to Beijing to petition for help from Xi Jinping, but due to the Third Plenary Session, she was intercepted by local police on July 3. “Upon returning, she was directly taken to a detention center, and it was criminal detention. The police informed us that the duration of detention was not yet determined.”

Video provided by Yang Caiying to Epoch Times showed that when she was at her sister’s home on Binhu North Road in Jintan District, government officials were sent to monitor her.
