Former Head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Team of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection stationed in the Organization Department of the Central Committee, Li Gang, has been prosecuted.

After being removed from office for 10 months, Li Gang, former head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Team of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection stationed at the Central Organization Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), has been prosecuted on charges of accepting massive bribes.

According to a report issued by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the CCP on July 24, the investigation into the bribery case involving Li Gang, the former head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Team of the Central Organization Department of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervision Commission, has concluded. Following the assignment by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the case will be reviewed and prosecuted by the Wuhan City Prosecutor’s Office in Hubei Province. Recently, the prosecutor has filed a lawsuit with the Intermediate People’s Court of Wuhan City.

The prosecution alleges that Li Gang took advantage of his positions as Deputy County Magistrate of Dayi County in Sichuan Province, County Magistrate of Wenjiang County, District Chief of Wenjiang District in Chengdu City, Secretary of the Wenjiang District Committee, Director of the Investment Promotion Bureau of Sichuan Province, Secretary of the Bazhong Municipal Committee in Sichuan Province, Secretary of the Zigong Municipal Committee in Sichuan Province, Deputy Governor of Sichuan Province, and Minister of the Organization Department of the Yunnan Provincial Committee, using the convenience and power derived from these positions for personal gain and accepting bribes, with an especially large amount, thereby should be held criminally responsible for the crime of accepting bribes.

On September 30 last year, Li Gang was announced to be under investigation; on April 7 this year, he was removed from office and transferred for judicial proceedings and subsequently arrested on April 22.

The report of his removal from office states that Li Gang engaged in speculation and collusion, associating with political fraudsters, seeking benefits for others in cadre selection and appointment processes, engaging in profit-making activities in violation of regulations, treating public authority as a tool for personal gain, accepting large sums of money through illicit means, and utilizing his position to benefit others in terms of corporate operations, project contracting, and job adjustments, among other areas, by taking advantage of his authority.

Public records show that Li Gang, born in July 1965 in Dayi County, Sichuan Province, held various positions including Director of the Investment Promotion Bureau of Sichuan Province, Secretary of the Bazhong Municipal Committee, Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Sichuan Province, Deputy Governor of Sichuan Province, and in 2021, he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Committee and Minister of the Organization Department.
