Former Director Wang Hongwei of the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau was officially under investigation after being dismissed for two months. Reports indicate that he was taken away for investigation in mid-October.
On December 30, the Guangzhou Municipal Discipline Inspection Commission announced that Wang Hongwei, the former Party Secretary and Director of the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Guangzhou Municipal Discipline Inspection Commission.
After verification by multiple sources, it was confirmed that Wang Hongwei was taken away for investigation as early as mid-October.
On October 18, the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau’s official website updated the list of leadership, with 56-year-old Cai Sheng appointed as the Party Secretary of the bureau. On October 29, Cai Sheng also took on the role of Director of the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau.
On the same day, the 16th Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee announced the removal of Wang Hongwei from the position of Director of the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau.
Public records show that Wang Hongwei, born in January 1966 in Daixian, Shanxi Province, holds a doctoral degree in management and started working in July 1990.
Wang Hongwei has been deeply involved in the Guangzhou housing system for many years, having previously served as Deputy Director and Party Committee Member of the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission. In June 2016, Wang Hongwei became the Director and Party Secretary of the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission, holding the top leadership position.
In January 2019, following a new round of organizational reforms in Guangzhou, Wang Hongwei was appointed as the Director of the Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau.
