On August 7th, the former party member and deputy mayor of Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, Liu Lan (deputy department-level), was arrested on suspicion of taking bribes.
According to the official announcement from the Communist Party’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Liu Lan (deputy department-level) has been transferred to the procuratorial organ for review and prosecution on charges of bribery. Recently, the Anshun City Procuratorate made the decision to arrest Liu Lan on suspicion of bribery. The case is currently under further investigation.
The announcement stated that Liu Lan obstructed organizational review, received gifts and money that could affect the fair execution of official duties, received property significantly exceeding normal social courtesy, and used public power as a tool to profit for others in the procurement of medical equipment, unlawfully accepting substantial sums of money.
Liu Lan had long served in various positions at the Guizhou Province Health Department, including Deputy Director of Personnel Division, Deputy Director of Science and Education Division, Director of Science and Education Division, and Director of Rural Health Management Division. In 2014, he served as Director of the Basic Health Division of the Guizhou Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission, and in 2017, he became the Deputy Mayor of Tongren City. In 2021, he was transferred to the position of Deputy Mayor of Guiyang City until he was investigated on February 26th of this year and expelled from the Party on June 25th.
