Recently, Zhao Jinyun, former Vice Governor of Gansu Province, was arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes.
According to the report issued by the Communist Party of China’s Supreme Procuratorate on May 9th, Zhao Jinyun, the former Vice Governor of Gansu Province, was transferred to the procuratorial organs for examination and prosecution on suspicion of accepting bribes. The Supreme Procuratorate made the decision to arrest Zhao Jinyun on charges of bribery.
Zhao Jinyun had long been working in Gansu Province, serving as Deputy Director of the Land Registration Office of the Gansu Provincial Department of Land and Resources, Deputy Director of the Farmland Protection Office, Director of the Land Use Management Office, and later taking up positions in provincial state-owned enterprises. In September 2015, he became the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Civil Aviation Airport Group Co., Ltd., and was promoted to the department level. In June 2018, Zhao Jinyun was appointed as the General Manager of the Readers Publishing Group Co., Ltd. In December 2022, he was promoted to Vice Governor of Gansu Province.
On October 25, 2024, Zhao Jinyun was officially announced to have fallen from power, becoming the 50th senior official reported by the authorities to have fallen from grace since last year. One week later, on November 1, 2024, Bao Donghong, the former Party Secretary and Director of the Taxation Bureau of Shaanxi Province, was also placed under investigation. According to reports citing informed sources by Caixin, Bao Donghong is married to Zhao Jinyun.
On April 23 of this year, Zhao Jinyun was dismissed from public office. According to the report, Zhao Jinyun sought benefits for others and accepted money and gifts in official selection and appointment procedures; engaged in corrupt practices within his family, accepting money on a large scale, profiting for others in project contracting and engineering payment through the abuse of his position, and illegally accepting huge amounts of money.
