Former Deputy Director of Inner Mongolia People’s Congress Sentenced to 15 Years in First Instance.

Former Deputy Director of the Inner Mongolia People’s Congress Standing Committee, Du Zi, was sentenced to 15 years in the first instance, accused of taking bribes exceeding 81.91 million yuan. In April 2024, Du Zi fell from grace, becoming the 20th “tiger” to be caught last year.

On July 29, the Shenyang Intermediate People’s Court in Liaoning Province publicly pronounced the verdict in the bribery case of Du Zi, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People’s Congress. Du Zi was sentenced to 15 years in prison for bribery and fined 8 million yuan.

The court stated that from 2002 to 2015, Du Zi, taking advantage of his positions as Deputy Secretary of the Ordos Municipal Party Committee in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Acting Mayor, Mayor, Party Secretary of Ordos, Secretary of Tongliao Municipal Party Committee, Member of the Party Committee of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Secretary of Tongliao Municipal Party Committee, provided assistance to relevant units and individuals in enterprise operations, project contracting, etc., totaling illegal proceeds of more than 81.91 million yuan.

In April of last year, Du Zi was publicly announced to have fallen from grace, expelled from the Party in October, had welfare benefits canceled, and was transferred to judicial authorities. It is reported that the Shenyang Intermediate People’s Court held a public hearing on the case on May 16, 2025, and Du Zi pleaded guilty in court.

Public records show that Du Zi was born in June 1955, from Tokto County, Hohhot City, and is now 70 years old. Du Zi has been working in Inner Mongolia and retired seven years ago.

Du Zi has served as the Director of the Office of the Propaganda Department of the Inner Mongolia Party Committee, Member and Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Ikh Juu League Committee of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Mayor and Party Secretary of Ordos City, Secretary of Tongliao Municipal Party Committee, Member of the Party Committee of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Deputy Director of the People’s Congress Standing Committee. In January 2018, with the reshuffle of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People’s Congress Standing Committee, Du Zi no longer held the position of Deputy Director.
