Former chairman of China’s liquor company Wuliangye Group, Li Shuguang, has been expelled from the party and dismissed from public office, and has been transferred to judicial authorities for investigation. Li Shuguang, who had a long career in government departments, announced his retirement two years ago, and in January of this year it was officially announced that he was under investigation. Wuliangye Group is a state-owned enterprise in Sichuan Province.
On October 27, the official website of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Communist Party of China in Sichuan Province reported that Li Shuguang, former deputy director of the Economic Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress, violated regulations in selecting and appointing cadres. He allowed and approved specific individuals to use their authority or positions to seek personal gain, used his authority to benefit others, and his specific associates accepted gifts from others. Additionally, using his position to profit specific associates’ business activities, and engaging in corrupt and greedy behavior, taking advantage of his position to benefit others in project contracting and acquiring liquor distribution rights and accepting huge amounts of bribes.
According to the report, Li Shuguang has been expelled from the party and public office, and has been transferred to the judicial authorities.
Public records show that Li Shuguang was born in January 1962, and started working in July 1983. He held various positions in government departments, including assistant mayor of Luzhou City Government, chairman of the Board of Directors of state-owned enterprises in the Sichuan provincial government, chief economist of the Economic and Information Committee of Sichuan Province, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Economic and Information Committee of Sichuan Province, and deputy director.
In March 2017, Li Shuguang took over from Tang Qiao as the head of Wuliangye Group, serving as the Party Secretary and Chairman.
In January 2022, Li Shuguang was transferred to the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress, serving as the deputy director of the Economic Committee, and resigned in January 2023.
