Former Chairman of China Aviation Industry Corporation, Tan Ruisong, Arrested

On Friday, August 30th, it was officially announced that Tan Ruisong, the former Chairman of the China Aviation Industry Corporation, has been investigated for serious violations of discipline and law.

Public records show that Tan Ruisong was born in February 1962 in Youxian, Hunan province, and started working in August 1983. He holds a bachelor’s degree in aircraft engine design and manufacturing from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a master’s degree in marine power from Harbin Engineering University, and a Ph.D. in management science and engineering from Harbin Engineering University. He is a senior engineer at the researcher level.

Throughout his career, Tan Ruisong has held positions such as General Manager of Harbin Dong’an Power Co., Ltd., Deputy Chairman and General Manager of Harbin Dong’an Engine (Group) Co., Ltd., Chairman of Harbin Aircraft Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager of China Aviation Industry Corporation II, and other roles.

On July 31, 2008, Tan Ruisong was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of China Aviation Industry Corporation by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, concurrently serving as the Director of the Security Committee of China Aviation Industry Corporation.

On April 5, 2012, the State Council issued a notice appointing Tan Ruisong as the General Manager of China Aviation Industry Corporation, and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission decided to appoint Tan Ruisong as a director of China Aviation Industry Corporation.

In May 2018, Tan Ruisong was appointed as the Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of China Aviation Industry Corporation Limited.

In March 2023, the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China announced the removal of Tan Ruisong from his positions as Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of China Aviation Industry Corporation Limited due to age limits for senior executives in central enterprises.

Since July of last year, the Chinese authorities have launched a major crackdown on the Rocket Force and rocket manufacturing departments. Following the arrests of the commander and political commissar of the Rocket Force, several key technical personnel responsible for rocket manufacturing and launch were also detained. In September last year, there were reports of the previous Chairman of China Aviation Industry Corporation Limited, Tan Ruisong, being disciplined.

China Aviation Industry Corporation Limited is a super-large state-owned enterprise established in 2008 through the integration of the former China Aviation Industry Corporation I and II. The group comprises industries such as aviation weapons and equipment, military transport aircraft, helicopters, airborne systems, and general aviation, with over 100 member units, 25 listed companies, and more than 400,000 employees.

The majority of the fighter jets used by the Chinese Air Force are developed by the company, and the Yun-12, Xinzhou 60, Xinzhou 600, Xinzhou 700, ERJ-145 and other civil aircraft are also developed by the group.
