Flushing BID held its annual “Neighborhood Festival” at the intersection of 40th Road and Prince Street in Flushing on September 6th, providing a unique opportunity for people to explore Flushing’s culinary delights and specialty products. The event attracted a large number of participants, with crowds flocking to the scene and many booths overflowing with people.
At the event, booths from 45 local Flushing businesses showcased a wide array of offerings, including food, handicrafts, traditional Chinese medicine health drinks, cosmetics, and community health education. From delicious soup dumplings to uniquely flavored Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches and Thai milk tea; even the upscale Macy’s department store participated, offering discounted brand-name perfumes. Institutions like New York Presbyterian Hospital Queens, Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, MetroPlus Health Plan, and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance took to the streets to provide convenient services, offering health and health insurance education and consultations.
Flushing is known as a paradise for Asian cuisine, and the medical, healthcare, and financial services here are also very comprehensive. Yudiansong, the executive director of Flushing BID, stated that the Neighborhood Festival has been held for over a decade, showcasing the unique features of Flushing’s local businesses and promoting the commercial prosperity of Flushing. This not only attracts local residents but also draws more visitors and tourists to Flushing to enjoy the food and various services.
The weekend also coincided with the US Open tennis tournament, providing a great opportunity for out-of-town visitors in Flushing to explore the local cuisine and specialties. Yudiansong mentioned that choosing to hold the festival during the US Open was also a way to promote Flushing. “Willets Point is just one stop away from Flushing, and we welcome them to take an extra stop to Flushing. I believe that once they come, they will surely be captivated by Flushing.”
Previously known as a food street in Flushing, 40th Road has evolved over time, with Prince Street now emerging as Flushing’s new “food street,” featuring a variety of specialty restaurants and bubble tea shops. The annual Flushing BID Neighborhood Festival held here has brought even more vitality to these two street blocks.
