China has been hit by floods in various regions, affecting nearly 100,000 people. Floods in Guangdong and Fujian have resulted in at least 9 deaths and 17 missing persons, with 47,800 people affected in Wuping County, Fujian. In Guangxi, floods have affected 10 counties in 4 cities, impacting at least 23,600 people. In Hunan, floods have occurred in multiple areas, leading to the emergency evacuation of some residents. In Xinjiang’s Changji City, flash floods and mudslides have trapped vehicles, with 4 people missing.
On June 18, according to CCTV, the emergency management department in Guangxi reported that since the 17th, floods have affected 10 counties in 4 cities in Guangxi. As of 4 p.m. on the 17th, 23,600 people have been affected, 421 have been evacuated urgently, 85 people need urgent life assistance, 1,311 hectares of crops have been affected, 16 houses have collapsed, 25 houses have been severely damaged, resulting in a direct economic loss of 10.22 million yuan (RMB).
As of 7 a.m. on the 18th, 36 river stations in Guangxi have exceeded the warning water level by 0.00 to 2.57 meters. The water level at the Xijiang Wuzhou Hydrological Station is 20.30 meters (with a warning level of 18.5 meters), exceeding the warning level by 1.8 meters, with a corresponding flow rate of 31,200 cubic meters per second.
In addition to Guangxi, floods have also occurred simultaneously in Meizhou, Guangdong, and Wuping County, Fujian.
According to official information from Guangdong, as of 7 a.m. on the 17th, a total of 130,000 households in three counties and one district in Meizhou, Guangdong, had experienced power outages, with some towns and villages in a state of isolation. By the 17th, landslides and mudslides had occurred in many areas of Pingyuan County in Meizhou, including Sishui Town, Renju Town, Dongshi Town, Nanca Town in Jiangling County, and Songyuan Town in Meixian District, resulting in 5 deaths, 15 missing persons, and 13 people trapped.
In Wuping County, Longyan, preliminary statistics show that this flood has affected 17 townships (sub-districts) in the entire county, with 47,800 people affected. It has caused 378 houses to collapse, damaged 880 hectares of crops, 135 road damages spanning 73.3 kilometers, 158 damaged dykes spanning 3.18 kilometers, 582 damaged communication base stations, and a direct economic loss of 415 million yuan. As of 10 a.m. on the 17th, landslides occurred in multiple townships in Wuping County, including Xiabian, Zhongchi, Xiangdong, and Zhongbao, resulting in 4 deaths and 2 missing persons.

Residents of Meixian District in Meizhou, Guangdong, informed Epoch Times on the 17th that several towns around them were flooded, with water meters deep in some places. “The low-lying areas are completely inundated,” they said. Videos showed streets being flooded, with ground-floor shops completely submerged, and floodwaters reaching the second floor. “The arcade buildings in Meizhou’s ancient city are submerged in water,” they said.
In addition to the aforementioned provinces, the Hunan Provincial Meteorological Bureau reported that from 7 a.m. on June 16 to 7 a.m. on June 17, heavy rain affected 70 counties (cities, districts) in Hunan, with severe rain in 27 counties (cities, districts), leading to floods and landslides in many areas of Hunan.
On the 17th, 28,140 people in 15 townships in Suining County in Hunan were affected by floods. The mountain torrents in Zhiping Village, a Miao and Dong ethnic village in Suining County, caused landslides in several places.
By noon on June 17, more than 40 households affected by the floods had been relocated in Sanhu Town, Hengyang County, Hunan, without causing any casualties.
The Hunan Provincial Meteorological Bureau predicts continued heavy rainfall in Hunan Province in the coming days. From the 18th to the 19th, parts of central and northern Hunan are expected to experience heavy rain, with possible localized severe rain and thunderstorms with strong winds.
In addition, Xinjiang has also experienced flash floods. The Emergency Management Bureau of Changji City in Xinjiang reported that on the evening of June 17, heavy rainfall in the mountainous areas of Maiergou Township in Changji City led to flash floods and mudslides, blocking roads.
