Early on the morning of July 9th, a sudden landslide occurred in Shizhuang Village, Zhengdong Town, Xuyong County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, burying houses and leaving 5 people missing.
A local netizen shared a video, stating, “All the houses are now uninhabitable! Two of them have collapsed directly.” The video shows that there are several households around the landslide area.
According to a message from the official WeChat account “Xuyong Releases”, a short but intense rainfall occurred from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on July 8th in Zhengdong Town, Xuyong County, with a rainfall exceeding 150 millimeters in just 3 hours.
In the early hours of July 9th, a sudden landslide took place at Shazipo in Shizhuang Village, Zhengdong Town, burying a house and leading to 5 people going missing. A total of 24 people from 11 households around the landslide area have been safely relocated. Currently, efforts are underway to search and rescue the missing individuals.
On the morning of the 9th, a villager informed Jiemu News that the incident site is a few kilometers away from his home, and local traffic controls have been implemented.
“The rescue teams had already gone in during the night, and I only learned this morning that a house was buried,” said the villager, noting that heavy rain fell in the area on the 8th, and it is still raining.
Many netizens have expressed their concerns in the comments section of videos, saying, “I passed by this place around 1 am last night; I’m still fearful now, with danger lurking around every corner.” Another commented, “I traveled from Xuyong to Gulin this morning around 4 am, taking the old route, and encountered at least twenty landslides along the way.”
“This morning, the entrance to Dongkou is closed for vehicles. It’s too terrifying, and we dare not go and see.” Another shared, “Traveling out from Zhengdong to Xudong, heading up to Shazipo, the landslide is too horrifying. Even though I’m close by, it might take me about an hour’s walk, but I dare not go and see, it’s too frightening.”
