On the first day of the National Day holiday, heavy snowfall hit areas such as Kanas in Xinjiang, Namtso in Tibet, Riyue Mountain in Qinghai, and Heihe in Heilongjiang, posing significant challenges for tourists and leading to hundreds of vehicles getting stranded on the roads in Kanas.
Many tourists reported via videos on October 1st that it was snowing heavily in Kanas, Xinjiang. According to one netizen, on September 30th, she was self-driving on the Ahe Highway in the Altay region of Xinjiang when it suddenly started snowing heavily. She and many other vehicles were stuck on the road until around 2:00 am on October 1st when they finally returned to the urban area of Altay.
Footage showed that at 12:30 pm on September 30th, snowflakes were falling on the Ahe Highway, creating a white blanket all around, with many private cars stranded due to the heavy snow.
At 8:30 pm on October 1st, the same netizen posted another video showing that the Ahe Highway was still experiencing blizzard conditions, with the snow on the roadside reaching ankle-deep. Despite snow removal efforts, the road had frozen over, trapping over a hundred vehicles.
The netizen, who is from Shaanxi, mentioned that it was the first time she had seen such heavy snow and that her car was hit twice due to slippery road conditions while waiting for rescue, but fortunately, no one was injured.
According to public information, Kanas Scenic Area in Altay region, abbreviated as Kanas Scenic Area, is located in the middle section of the Altai Mountains in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Due to extreme weather conditions, the Traffic Management Brigade of the Kanas Scenic Area Public Security Bureau subsequently issued a notice implementing temporary road control and suspending all hiking routes. As reported by Jiemu News, the Ahe Highway has been closed, with still over a hundred private cars stranded. It is expected that the Ahe Highway will not reopen until October 3rd.
In addition to Xinjiang, Namtso in Tibet also saw heavy snowfall on October 1st. Videos shared by netizens showed thick snow covering the slopes on both sides of the road leading to Namtso.
Staff at the Namtso Scenic Area stated that heavy snowfall started in the morning and continued until noon, resulting in thick snow on the mountain. The temperature at Namtso had dropped below 0°C, but the lake surface had not frozen.
The staff member explained that in previous years, it did not usually snow before the start of the National Day holiday, making this year’s situation more unusual.
Furthermore, the Riyue Mountain Scenic Area in Xining, Qinghai, was also blanketed by snow on the morning of October 1st. Staff at the scenic area mentioned that light snow had started the previous night and continued until around 9:40 am the next day. Despite the low temperature on the mountain, with only a few degrees, the heavy snow did not affect the normal operation of the scenic area.
According to reports by Aihui TV, on the first day of the National Day holiday, numerous areas in Heihe, Heilongjiang Province, were also hit by heavy snow, prompting local authorities to issue warnings for frost and cold waves.
Local netizens in the video zone expressed, “It’s snowing in Heihe, winter has arrived directly, skipping autumn completely.” “It was much colder going out this morning, freezing my snot.”
