On June 11, a major fire broke out at a motorcycle parking spot near the Computer City in Shiqiao Pu District of Chongqing. The scene was engulfed in flames and thick smoke billowed into the air.
A video circulating online showed a high-rise building shrouded in thick smoke, with flames continuously burning on the ground floor facing the street. Explosions could be heard intermittently, attracting many bystanders from the surrounding area. The video also captured numerous motorcycles parked at the scene. Some netizens speculated that the fire broke out around noon on the 11th, possibly caused by an electric scooter catching fire.
According to reports by Cover News, dozens of motorcycles and electric vehicles were destroyed in the fire, and one citizen sustained burns on his arm while attempting to rescue.
A Mr. Chen, a local resident, recounted that he was dining with a friend when they noticed smoke in the vicinity. Initially, the fire had not ignited, but it spread rapidly within a few minutes. He managed to drag a row of vehicles outside before attempting to move his own, and in the process, he suffered burns due to the intense heat.
As per the Fire Department in Jiulongpo District, at 13:12 on that day, a fire broke out at a temporary motorcycle parking spot at No. 8 Yuzhou Road, Yuzhou Road Street, Jiulongpo District. The flames were extinguished by 13:33, and the specific cause of the fire is currently under further investigation.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks posed by fires in densely populated urban areas and the importance of swift response and vigilance to prevent further damage or injuries.
