Multiple netizens revealed on the 23rd that a fire occurred on the Chaobai River Bridge on Shunping Road in Shunyi District, with partial collapse. “The Chaoyang Rainbow Bridge near my home collapsed inexplicably, we often take this road! I don’t know if there are any casualties.”
Videos circulating online showed thick black smoke rising from various parts of the Chaobai River Bridge, with a sudden rupture in the middle of the bridge deck, causing the bridge structure to fall into the river. A netizen commented on the video section, “It collapsed a little after 5 in the morning, the fire started in the pipeline on the edge of the bridge. I was fishing about 800 meters away.”
The Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport officially announced on their Weibo account that the collapse occurred at 7:07 a.m.
According to the report, a fire broke out on the Chaobai River Bridge in Shunyi District, resulting in damage to parts of the bridge structure. Traffic in the vicinity of the bridge has been temporarily cut off in both directions. Currently, the open flames have been extinguished, and the incident did not cause any casualties or damage to vehicles. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Furthermore, according to a message from “Beijing Traffic Police” official account at 8:44 a.m., temporary construction work is underway on Shunping Road at the Chaobai River Bridge. Traffic management departments have implemented diversion measures at the intersections of Shuntai Road and Shunping Road, as well as Shunmi Road on Shunping Road.
The Chaobai River Bridge is an important link connecting Shunyi District and Pinggu District, serving as a crucial “passageway” between the two banks of the Chaobai River in Shunyi District. It has a high daily traffic volume. The entire bridge was built in 1999, with the main bridge undergoing multiple repairs over the years.
