Recently, the popular Chinese actor Lu Han, whose social platforms were previously banned, was discovered by netizens on July 5th to have his various social media accounts showing as available for follow again. The hashtag #LuHan Gains Over 10,000 Followers in 20 Minutes# quickly climbed to the top trending topics on Weibo.
On January 6th this year, Lu Han appeared in a live stream on a social platform, where he used vulgar language and made gestures such as raising his middle finger, saying, “So what if I’m drunk, just ban me quickly.” The video sparked discussions and soon after, his accounts on platforms like Weibo, Douyin, and Xiaohongshu were all set to “prohibit following” with the platform citing “violations of laws and regulations” as the reason. This news quickly became the number one trending topic, and Lu Han’s studio issued an apology statement on the same day.
Now, six months have passed, and on July 5th, netizens noticed that all of Lu Han’s social media accounts have been unblocked, and his popularity has swiftly recovered: he gained over 10,000 followers on Weibo in just 20 minutes, and over 2 million followers on Douyin in a single day; the total number of new followers on all platforms reached nearly 3 million on the first day of the unblocking, offsetting the loss of 2.632 million followers accumulated over the previous six months.
Lu Han recently held a concert tour in China and had a performance in Qingdao. In order to interact with his fans, Lu Han arranged to read out message cards made by fans. One female fan had written on her card, “Lu Han, I brought my boyfriend here to see you!” The large letters on the card quickly caught Lu Han’s attention, and he asked the audience, “Where is the boyfriend?” The female fan’s boyfriend stood up and waved at him, to which Lu Han smiled, and then reminded him to “take care of her.”
Instantly, the whole venue erupted in cheers, with the audience moved by Lu Han’s warm words. After the concert, videos of Lu Han’s interactions during the event surfaced online, with netizens praising his ability to attract fans, saying, “Lu Han is like a brother advising his brother-in-law,” and “Once again, Lu Han wins over more fans.”
The 35-year-old Lu Han, born in Beijing and a graduate of Seoul Institute of the Arts in South Korea, was discovered by South Korean entertainment company SM Entertainment during his studies in Korea in 2008. He officially debuted as a member of the South Korean boy group EXO/EXO-M in 2012, and after requesting to terminate his contract with SM Entertainment in 2014, he returned to China, reaching a settlement with the company in 2016. He has starred in TV dramas such as “Back to 20”, “I Am a Witness”, “Fighter of the Destiny”, and more. His debut music album “Reloaded” received the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) certification as a “Platinum Record.”
Known as a “top-tier star,” Lu Han caused a sensation on October 8, 2017, when he announced his relationship with actress Guan Xiaotong on Weibo. His simple introduction, “Hi, everyone, let me introduce my girlfriend to you,” went viral, crashing servers due to overwhelming traffic. Since then, every move of the couple has been closely followed.
After an 8-year relationship, rumors of Lu Han and Guan Xiaotong’s breakup have been circulating recently. A recent cause for speculation was Guan Xiaotong’s rare omission of birthday wishes on Lu Han’s 35th birthday on April 20 on her Weibo account. In previous years, she would post birthday greetings to Lu Han exactly at midnight. This absence of acknowledgment led to concerns among fans, but neither party has directly responded to the breakup rumors.
During his recent concert tour, Lu Han’s visibly sunken cheeks and overall slimmed-down appearance raised concerns among his fans, suspecting it was due to emotional distress. However, Lu Han’s close friend Chen He revealed during a live broadcast that Lu Han exercises daily and emphasized that he is currently in good condition, urging fans not to jump to conclusions.
Fortunately, Guan Xiaotong recently surprised social media users by posting a dancing video with the caption “Curly hair limited edition.” Fans noticed that Guan Xiaotong’s hairstyle in the video resembled Lu Han’s style during his performance in Qingdao, suggesting they share a “couple’s hairstyle,” especially considering Guan Xiaotong’s social media location was listed as Shandong. Many fans interpreted this as evidence that the breakup rumors were false, bringing a sense of relief to many.
