On March 29, a Xiaomi SU7 caught fire after a collision on a highway in Anhui, resulting in the deaths of 3 people. Mr. Luo, the father of one of the victims, told the media on April 1 that he saw his daughter’s body carbonized at the funeral home. The so-called working group from Xiaomi has not contacted them yet.
Mr. Luo, from Daye, Hubei, mentioned that the car belonged to his daughter’s boyfriend. When the accident occurred, his son received a warning on his phone’s background. It was only after the boyfriend called Mr. Luo’s son that they learned about the accident.
Mr. Luo rushed to Zongyang County, taking 3 hours to arrive, only to find the scene already sealed off. The traffic police informed him that his daughter and her classmates were burned to death. The third girl was dragged out of the car window by someone and despite being rushed to the hospital, she also succumbed to her injuries.
Grieved, Mr. Luo mentioned that he went to the funeral home for DNA sampling and saw his daughter’s carbonized body, with only the skeletal frame remaining, stating, “Do you know what carbonization means? It’s just a skeletal frame left.”
Following the accident on March 29, Xiaomi finally responded on April 1, issuing a statement saying, “The company has now set up a dedicated working group to rush to the scene, will fully cooperate with the police and family to conduct a detailed reconstruction investigation of the accident, and assist the family in handling subsequent matters.”
However, Mr. Luo expressed, “It’s already the 4th day since the accident, and Xiaomi has not contacted us proactively. The customer service department’s statements to the family and the public are different from the actual situation.”
“We have not made any progress so far,” Mr. Luo said, feeling that they have been kept in the dark.
A circulated screenshot of a purported conversation between the family members and a reporter from Hubei Daily showed that Hubei media received orders from higher authorities not to report on the incident.
Regarding the reason, the reporter stated in the conversation, “We are the Hubei media, and these students are from Hubei, as well as Lei Jun. Pressure is being exerted from above.”
