Father of Luo Shuaiyu announces data of organ transplant center at Xiangya Second Hospital

On June 17th, the father of Luo Shuaiyu, an intern doctor from Xiangya Second Hospital of Central South University who died from unknown causes last year, made a post on Weibo. He revealed internal data from the hospital’s organ transplant center, indicating that Luo Shuaiyu refused to take the blame for untraceable organs, leading to “serious consequences.” That day, the webpage content of the kidney transplant department at Xiangya Second Hospital was cleared.

Luo Shuaiyu fell to his death from the 15th floor of a building near his dormitory on May 8, 2024. While the police initially ruled it as a suicide, his family believes his death is related to his report of corruption involving Dr. Liu Xiangfeng at the hospital. Over the past year, the family has continued to speak out online, exposing internal data collected by Luo Shuaiyu before his death, involving organ transplants, obtaining organs from children, and sparking strong public attention.

On June 13th, the joint investigation team organized by the Hunan authorities released a notice, once again determining Luo Shuaiyu’s death as a suicide unrelated to reporting on Liu Xiangfeng. Luo’s family has continued to voice their concerns, pointing out numerous flaws in the official reports.

On June 17th at 16:47, Luo’s father posted on Weibo, saying, “What really happened at Xiangya Second Hospital in April-May 2024? The last image below is from the ‘Xiangya Second Hospital Organ Transplant Center Clinical Research Database.’ Please interpret it rationally. Note that the first two pictures are from May 7, 2024, the day before Luo Shuaiyu’s incident. The last image shows four tasks that Luo Shuaiyu did not complete.” He attached four images.

In the first image, a screenshot of a chat record shows a man in a white coat operating a computer. Below it, a message reads, “This person is using a computer in the doctor’s office, please stop him if you see it!” The chat record is dated May 7, 2024, the day before Luo Shuaiyu’s incident.

The face of the man in the white coat in the picture is pixelated, unclear if it’s Luo Shuaiyu, and Luo’s father did not provide further clarification, leading to speculation among netizens. Some believe that the pixelation was not done by Luo’s father, implying a risk of unauthorized copying of confidential information leading to consequences the next day.

The second image’s conversation shows Luo Shuaiyu receiving a form on April 23, 2024, with a message on May 7 at 10:09 saying, “Today, make sure to give me this donor form, Shuaiyu.” According to the fourth image released by Luo’s father, the form Luo Shuaiyu received pertains to the “Xiangya Second Hospital Organ Transplant Center Clinical Research Database.”

The form (image 3) records information of nine donors between March 25 to April 22, 2024, including two DBD cases (brain death), four living donors, and other three blanks.

In the column “Handler Present” for the four living donors, none are listed, while the other five cases have the names of handling doctors.

From the “Acquiring Hospital” and “External Hospital Provide” sections, it is known that the donors came from various hospitals, with some living donors’ sources undisclosed.

It can be inferred that the kidney transplant department of the hospital performed nine transplant surgeries in that period, with clear sources for five cases and unknown sources for the four living donors.

On June 18th at 11:37, Luo’s father updated his Weibo, mentioning the phone call from Luo Shuaiyu’s mentor on May 7th, 2024, related to the donor form incident with incomplete information. Other forms indicated potential irregularities, raising suspicions.

As per the “Regulations on Human Organ Donation and Transplantation,” living organ donors and recipients are limited to spouses and blood relatives within three generations.

Some netizens question, “Living donations should only be among relatives, yet within a few days, Dr. Luo handled four cases!”

Liu Xiangfeng was arrested in August 2022 for exaggerating patient conditions and falsifying symptoms, sentenced to 17 years in prison on October 31, 2024.

In the afternoon of the 17th, the webpage content of the kidney transplant department at Xiangya Second Hospital was cleared.

Luo Shuaiyu’s family told mainland media ‘Litchi News’ on the 13th that his reports included over 1,300 pages of organ donors’ files from Xiangya Second Hospital, revealing potential falsifications. For example, a female donor’s contact information led to a person with a different surname when contacted.

Under Chinese law, organ donation from a body requires unanimous consent and signatures from all immediate family members.

In a picture previously shared by Luo’s family, three individuals lay silent on emergency room beds with no family by their side.

A source close to Luo’s family revealed that Luo suspected staff referred to the emergency room as a “morgue,” where organ harvesting could occur. He collected evidence indicating potential manipulation by “associated partners” supplying “potential organ donors” to the hospital.

The source disclosed that Luo was tasked with obtaining 12 child donors upon enrollment but rebelled against it. He faced pressure the day before the incident and threatened to report them, leading to his demise the following day.

Luo’s uncle posted a video on social media, questioning Luo’s actions regarding vital research components essential for graduation. Luo’s premonitions of danger were evident in chats with classmates foreseeing repercussions after the Liu Xiangfeng incident.

By the afternoon of the 18th, comments on Luo Shuaiyu’s father’s Weibo were disabled.
