Fatal Accident: Xiaomi SU7 Electric Car Crashes Into Sea in Fujian, Driver Dies

A tragic incident occurred in Pingtan County, Fujian Province, where a driver drove his car into the sea, resulting in his own death. The vehicle involved was a Xiaomi SU7, sparking attention from netizens. It was rumored that the driver failed to stop the car, but Xiaomi’s official customer service stated that they do not currently have information on the incident.

A video posted by a netizen shows that around 4 am, with few vehicles at the pier, lights were flickering in the distance. Suddenly, a white sedan deviated from the normal road and crashed through the roadside guardrail. Some netizens claimed that the involved car quickly sank into the sea, causing concern about the safety of the occupants.

The video indicates that the sedan entered the sea at the pier, where numerous fishing and cargo boats were docked.

According to netizens, people noticed something unusual and reported it to the authorities. Subsequently, a large crane lifted the white sedan out of the water, revealing that the car’s body was severely deformed due to the impact, with broken windows.

According to the “Huashang Bao · Dafeng News,” on October 9th, staff from the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone confirmed that a small sedan had fallen into the sea, and both the vehicle and the driver’s body had been retrieved ashore, but the cause of the incident remains unclear.

“Xin Huanghe” reported that on the morning of October 10th, news from the Haitan area of the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone revealed that the incident occurred at 4 am, but the car had already reached the vicinity of the pier by 2 am, and it went into the sea at 4 am. Staff members stated, “They said he was drunk, and he has passed away.”

There were rumors circulating online that the car owner failed to apply the brakes, and in response, Xiaomi’s customer service personnel stated that they do not currently have relevant information.

It’s worth noting that on September 19th, the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation of the Communist Party of China announced that Xiaomi Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. would recall 116,887 units of the SU7 standard electric vehicles.

The announcement stated that Xiaomi Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. had decided to recall a total of 116,887 SU7 standard electric vehicles produced between February 6, 2024, and August 30, 2025, starting from that day.

Some vehicles within the scope of this recall may have insufficient identification, warning, or handling of extreme special scenarios when the L2 high-speed navigation assistance function is activated. Without timely intervention by the driver, it could increase the risk of collisions, posing safety hazards.

This is the second time Xiaomi has issued a recall notice for the SU7 standard edition.

On January 24th of this year, the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation of the Communist Party of China previously announced a recall of a total of 30,931 units of the SU7 standard electric vehicles produced between February 6, 2024, and November 26, 2024. The reason for the recall was due to software strategy issues that could cause abnormal clock synchronization, affecting the intelligent parking assistance function in detecting static obstacles, increasing the risk of scratches or collisions, posing safety hazards.
