On the evening of May 2nd, at around 6:50 pm, a serious hit-and-run incident occurred at an intersection in the Gulou District of Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, resulting in at least 2 deaths and multiple injuries. Eyewitnesses at the scene were shocked by the incident. The police reported that the driver made a mistake and is currently under investigation. However, there are many doubts online about whether the driver intentionally caused the accident or if it was due to a driving error.
In the vicinity of Wuyi Square in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, a horrific incident took place where a small sedan collided with pedestrians and cars, causing severe injuries and bloodshed. From the videos captured at the scene, several pedestrians were seen lying on the ground after being hit, some motionless, some convulsing in pain, including men, women, and even children.
The local Fuzhou City Public Security Bureau Traffic Police Brigade issued a report classifying the incident as a regular traffic accident, attributing it to improper operation by the driver which resulted in multiple injuries and the deaths of 2 individuals despite rescue efforts being made.
The report stated, “The driver involved has been apprehended, the injured are being treated, and the accident investigation is ongoing.”
There are conflicting theories circulating online regarding whether the driver intentionally harmed people as an act of revenge or if it was a case of misinterpreted actions. Eyewitnesses at the scene shared their accounts with reporters to provide insight into the situation.
One witness, Mr. A, who works in the tourism industry, described the chaotic scene, “When I arrived, the accident had already occurred, and it was very serious. There was broken glass scattered all over the road, and I saw at least four people on the ground. One young woman was hiding by a car, calling for help with blood on her head.”
“I saw a man pulling the driver out of the car and giving him a kick while scolding him. The driver, a middle-aged man, had a blank expression and did not retaliate even after being hit. I suspect he was in shock,” Mr. A stated.
“I felt really sad. I was here for a sightseeing trip and had walked along this street in the afternoon, and then this tragedy happened at night. I stayed for a while but had to leave as I needed to catch a train,” he added.
Another witness, Mr. B, who was waiting at a traffic intersection for the green light, recounted, “Suddenly, I heard a loud crash from behind, and car parts fell on my feet. It scared me to death.”
He further explained that the driver of the car involved had a license plate from another city, suggesting they might have been tourists unfamiliar with the road conditions, leading to the collision.
Mr. B emphasized the severity of the situation, “Several people were hit immediately. I was lucky as an elderly lady shielded me, and I had considered walking a bit further forward. It was truly a stroke of luck.”
However, a third witness, Mr. C, believed that the incident could have been an act of vengeance or due to the driver’s inexperience leading to confusion.
Horrific incidents involving cars hitting pedestrians, some out of retaliation, have become alarmingly frequent in mainland China in recent years. The most significant incident occurred on November 11th last year at 7:45 pm at the Sports Center Fitness Square in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, where a malicious hit-and-run targeting innocent people took place, resulting in 35 deaths and 43 injuries. Eyewitnesses revealed that over two hundred people were affected, painting a gruesome picture of the scene.
On November 19th of the same month, in Dingcheng District, Changde, Hunan Province, a driver intentionally rammed into a crowd in front of Yong’an Elementary School, injuring several students and parents.
On the evening of the 22nd of last month, around 5:45 pm, a vehicular attack occurred outside a primary school in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, where multiple people were injured, with reports indicating some fatalities. However, the exact extent of the casualties remains unclear. Official censorship of videos and discussions related to the incident has been enforced, with sporadic media reports referring to it as a “traffic accident.”
