Fan Bingbing takes on Malaysian film to make a comeback; applies facial mask in the morning before going on set

Chinese Actress Fan Bingbing, who was embroiled in a tax scandal in 2018 causing her to be blacklisted, has been actively seeking ways to make a comeback in recent years. She recently starred in a movie directed by Malaysian filmmaker Zhang Jian. On the set, she posted a video on Instagram and Weibo of herself wearing a face mask before starting work, jokingly saying, “How painful is it to wake up early, just look at my face.”

In the video, Fan Bingbing, dressed in a robe, left the hotel before dawn, wearing a face mask and napping in the car with a bowl of breakfast she made the night before. She muttered, “Feels like my eyes are being forced open, work is really tough.”

Upon arrival on the set, she got off the car while saying, “Very tired, woke up at 5:30 am to get ready.” Despite wearing a black face mask, she greeted the crew with a smile saying, “Sorry, my face is black.” She then changed clothes and sat aside to have breakfast. Curious fans asked what she was eating and sent messages of encouragement like “Welcome to Alor Setar (capital of Kedah state in Malaysia)” and “Work hard, Bingbing sister.”

Later, Fan Bingbing posted four pictures of the sunrise, captioned “Good morning, finished work.” She announced the completion of an overnight shoot. Fans praised the beautiful sunrise and expressed anticipation for her new work.

Although Fan Bingbing did not specify the project she was filming in Malaysia, a Chinese movie website, Douban, recently revealed her collaboration with Malaysian director Zhang Jian on a new film. The information indicates that the movie is directed by Zhang Jian and stars Fan Bingbing. While the film’s title has not been disclosed, it is slated for release in 2026 and falls into the drama genre that Zhang Jian excels in.

In response, Fan Bingbing’s agent told Malaysian media, “All will be revealed in the official announcement next month.”
