In 2018, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing became embroiled in a tax evasion scandal, leading to her being blacklisted in the Chinese entertainment industry. As a result, she has been absent from the domestic film scene for six years. However, Fan Bingbing has since expanded her career abroad, with recent frequent appearances in Hong Kong.
It has been reported that Fan Bingbing, who has not filmed in mainland China for six years due to the tax evasion scandal, has recently been spotted frequently in Hong Kong. Rumors suggest that as early as ten years ago, she had intended to settle in Hong Kong through investment immigration. It wasn’t until recent years that she officially obtained the status of a “new Hong Kong resident” and currently resides in a luxurious semi-detached house in the Mid-Levels area, with a monthly rent of around HK$650,000.
According to reports from Hong Kong media outlet “Oriental Daily,” Fan Bingbing has acquired the status of a “new Hong Kong resident” and is renting an ultra-luxurious residence on Peak Road with a monthly rent of around HK$650,000. The practical area of this Peak residence exceeds 5,000 square feet, featuring five bedrooms, four suites, a garden of nearly 1,000 square feet, and a platform of over 1,000 square feet, offering a 180-degree panoramic view of Victoria Harbour.
Records show that the luxurious property rented by Fan Bingbing was originally purchased for around HK$500 million. Located in a well-known luxury residential area in Hong Kong, the property boasts high privacy levels and is a favored residence for wealthy individuals.
Reports indicate that Fan Bingbing had been planning to obtain Hong Kong residency through investment immigration as early as ten years ago, with recent years marking her official status as a “new Hong Kong resident.” Sources claim that before acquiring Hong Kong residency, Fan Bingbing had been searching for properties in Hong Kong. Despite earlier rumors of her property investments in Hong Kong, she had not actually entered the market. “She is truly lucky. If she had entered the market a few years earlier, she would have suffered heavy losses now,” as the Hong Kong property market has been declining in recent years, making renting rather than buying a wise choice.
In 2018, Fan Bingbing’s career took a hit due to the “yin-yang contracts” tax scandal in China. She was subsequently banned from appearing in mainland China’s entertainment industry. During her hiatus, she attended numerous overseas events. Since last year, she has been spotted in Hong Kong’s Central district and has been actively sharing photos of her time in Hong Kong on social platforms such as Red (Xiaohongshu) and Douyin.
On September 2nd, Fan Bingbing attended the opening fashion show of CENTRESTAGE ELITES at the Hong Kong Museum of History, dressed in a luxurious space-themed gown. The gown, which took 1,430 hours to make and is adorned with 97,000 crystals, shimmered brilliantly under the lights, exuding extravagance compared to other female attires.
Despite facing career setbacks in China, Fan Bingbing continues to thrive internationally. From last year to now, she has not only attended the Cannes Film Festival, filmed in South Korea, and worked with Hollywood star Liam Neeson on “The Ice Road 2,” but also established her beauty brand, Fan Beauty Diary.
During China’s “618” shopping event this year, Fan Bingbing’s personal cosmetics brand, Fan Beauty, topped the beauty brand ranking. Fan Bingbing recently revealed on Weibo that she is now focusing on expanding her brand overseas.
