Extending Telemedicine Health Services: Taichung Veterans General Hospital Signs Memorandum of Cooperation with East Coast Taiwanese Entrepreneurs

The Taiwan Veterans General Hospital in Taichung (referred to as Taichung Veterans General Hospital) has partnered with four major Taiwanese business groups in the Eastern United States to promote cross-border telemedicine and health services. On August 22, they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Flushing, New York with the World Chinese Businesswomen’s Association branches in New Jersey and New York, as well as the New York Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and the New Jersey Taiwan Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, Taichung Veterans General Hospital has inaugurated the “International Telemedicine Service Center” in New York (41-23 Union St. 5 FL, Flushing). Deputy Director Zhou Yuanhua of Taichung Veterans General Hospital, along with the Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York Li Zhiqiang and the heads of the collaborating groups, jointly unveiled the center.

Taichung Veterans General Hospital was recognized by “Newsweek” as one of the top 100 global hospitals in 2025 and the best smart hospital in Taiwan.

The launch of this service center signifies a close connection between Taichung Veterans General Hospital and the Taiwanese business and overseas communities in New York, breaking through the barriers of time and distance to bring high-quality medical services from Taiwan to Taiwanese expatriates and international friends, promoting the idea of health without borders.

Deputy Director Zhou Yuanhua introduced five services promoted by the hospital to expatriates at the unveiling ceremony: telemedicine, setting up a “green channel” to arrange health check-ups for expatriates returning to Taiwan, promoting disease prevention, providing education through networks, engaging in exchanges with multiple international hospitals, and initiating SOS emergency medical assistance.

Deputy Director Zhou emphasized that future services should be systematic, strategic, and refined, incorporating AI, international cooperation, and emergency mechanisms, with the ultimate goal of providing expatriates with more secure, convenient, and high-quality medical and health check-up services.

Director Li Zhiqiang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office witnessed the signing of the memorandum of cooperation. He emphasized the importance of health, quoting a common saying among Taiwanese people that one’s body is like the first number in a bank account—if you do not have a healthy body, your money becomes zero, turning into a scenario where “you are in heaven, but your money remains in the bank”— essentially others spending your money. Therefore, a healthy body is crucial. The collaboration aims to facilitate health check-ups at Taichung Veterans General Hospital for expatriates and provide telemedicine services where patients can seek advice from doctors through remote consultations, equivalent to seeking a “second opinion” from another physician.

The medical team from Taichung Veterans General Hospital will hold a health seminar on August 23rd (Saturday) from 1:30 to 4:30 pm at the Taiwan Center in New York (137-44 Northern Blvd., Flushing). The seminar will cover health check-ups, chronic disease prevention, telemedicine care, and smart medical technologies, welcoming expatriates to attend and learn.
