Explosion in a Residential Area in Taiyuan, Shanxi, Injuring at Least 17 People

On April 30th at around 13:17, an explosion occurred in a residential area near Guangming Road in Xiaodian District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The explosion resulted in shattered glass in nearby buildings and damage to vehicles, with reports confirming 17 people injured.

Several videos circulated online showing thick smoke billowing at the scene, with the glass of nearby residential buildings shattered and multiple cars burnt below. In one video, a man covered in blood can be seen, with the person filming informing that there is a clinic behind him.

Another video revealed that the windows of a resident’s home suspected to be the site of the explosion were blown out, with flames still visible inside the house.

Some netizens with inside information suggested it could be a “natural gas explosion,” mentioning the presence of “many fire trucks and ambulances” at the scene.

Residents living less than a kilometer from the explosion site told reporters that they heard a loud noise just after stepping out, initially mistaking it for thunder until realizing it was an explosion.

According to one resident, “The area where the explosion occurred in Fengjing Jiayuan is quite severe, with the glass of nearby buildings shattered. I heard they said there were already 17 casualties, but the specific injuries are still unclear. The area has been cordoned off, and we can’t pass through. The buildings in the community have not turned into ruins; only the wall adjacent to the natural gas supply is missing, but the concrete and steel reinforcement structure is still intact.”

As reported by Xinhua News Agency, on April 30th around 13:00, an explosion took place in Fengjing Jiayuan community in Beiyin Street, Xiaodian District, Taiyuan City. The blast resulted in 17 injuries, including 4 severe cases, with 3 individuals treated and discharged to return home.
