On the afternoon of August 9, an explosion occurred in the container terminal of Beilun Port in Zhoushan Port, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, on board a cargo ship, sparking attention.
A viral video shows that white smoke first emerged from the ship, followed by a loud bang. Flames instantly engulfed the entire cargo ship, with containers blasted into pieces scattered everywhere. A larger object was even sent directly into the sky.
Following the explosion, a massive mushroom cloud rose above the cargo ship. In the video, cries of nearby residents can be heard, with one woman unable to resist asking, “What was placed on top of it?”
According to the “Ningbo Maritime Administration,” on August 9, around 13:40, a container ship named “Dongming” at the 2nd berth of the Beilun Second Container Terminal Branch (belonging to Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation) carrying transit dangerous goods in containers experienced a combustion explosion.
In response to this, the Ningbo Emergency Management Bureau told “Sichuan Observer”: “Currently, there are no casualties. Specific information is subject to the official report.”
However, many netizens believe otherwise: “No casualties may not be true. In a major accident just happened near my home, clearly saw several dead, but the official report was just one death.” “Given the circumstances, no casualties is unbelievable.” “Surely they will deny it. If there are casualties, they will still deny it to avoid compensation. It’s too difficult to seek truth these days.” “Even if there are deaths, they will cover it up.”
A Taiwanese netizen even stated: “The explosion point is suspected to be in the container on the Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp’s container ship ‘Dongming,’ suspected to be a peroxide explosion.”
