Experts: Taiwan to experience two drastic weather changes on the night of the 9th and the 12th

Taiwanese meteorologists have indicated that two cold fronts will pass through late tonight (9th) and on the 12th afternoon. During the impact of these cold fronts, residents in various regions should be cautious of lightning strikes, strong winds, and sudden heavy rainfall. The weather next week is expected to be sunny and warm, resembling summer.

Associate Professor Wu Derong from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University in Taiwan shared in a column titled “Weather Machine Classroom” by the Meteorological Application Promotion Foundation that the latest European model (ECMWF) simulation on the evening of the 8th shows that today will be mostly cloudy with occasional sunshine. The maximum temperature in various regions is expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius, reaching up to 34 degrees in the south. It will be slightly hot during the day and slightly cool in the early morning and evening. There may be intermittent brief rain showers in mountainous areas and eastern Taiwan.

Wu Derong mentioned that according to the latest European model simulation, a cold front will pass through from late tonight to the afternoon of the 10th. Showers or thunderstorms are expected in the central to northern regions and mountainous areas in the south. People should beware of severe weather conditions such as lightning strikes, strong winds, and sudden heavy rainfall as temperatures drop slightly.

He further stated that from the evening of the 10th to the morning of the 12th, the weather will return to being sunny, warm, and stable. Another cold front will pass through quickly from the afternoon of the 12th to the early morning of the 13th, bringing showers or thunderstorms across Taiwan. There is also a probability of severe weather events like lightning strikes, strong winds, and sudden heavy rainfall, with temperatures decreasing. The weather is expected to rapidly improve from the daytime of the 13th onward, with “clear skies after rain.”

In the latest European model simulation, it is projected that high pressure will affect Taiwan on the 14th and 15th, resulting in sunny and hot weather during the day, significantly cooler mornings and evenings due to radiative cooling, with a temperature difference of over 15 degrees between day and night. From the 16th to the 18th, with high-pressure circulation, there will be a mix of clouds and sunshine across Taiwan, maintaining warm and hot conditions resembling summer, with fog likely to occur in the early morning in the western parts.
