Experts Reveal: How Your Ice Cream Choice Reveals Your Personality

How do you usually eat ice cream? Experts say that whether you bite, lick, or eat it slowly, the way you eat ice cream can reveal your personality and decision-making style. Let’s see if what the experts say is accurate.

According to a report by the British newspaper “Daily Express,” a study commissioned by Nuii ice cream manufacturer, involving 2,000 adults who love to eat ice cream, found that close to two-thirds of people prefer licking ice cream, while over a third prefer biting into it directly.

The brand spokesperson, American actor Jason Momoa, recently showcased his big-bite style of eating ice cream in a short video, sparking discussions among netizens.

Henry Craven, the brand manager of Nuii, said, “This reaction prompted us to delve deeper into the styles of eating ice cream that may reflect personalities.” While conducting the investigation, the company also took to the streets to gather public opinions on the matter.

Behavioral psychologist Jo Hemmings stated that how you eat ice cream may reveal whether you are daring or cautious.

She explained that individuals who bite ice cream directly tend to be fearless, confident, and impulsive. The general public also seems to agree with this assessment – 31% of respondents described ice cream biters as “impulsive,” 29% as “confident,” and another 26% considered them “fearless.”

On the other hand, those who prefer licking ice cream are seen as “methodical” and “relaxed.” They exhibit patience and a desire to savor every moment, which may also suggest a romantic nature.

Furthermore, individuals who enjoy eating ice cream slowly are often perceived as more “cautious,” “gentle,” and “thoughtful,” though some may view them as having control issues.

Hemmings further elaborated, stating, “The psychology of ice cream enthusiasts mainly revolves around seeking happiness and nostalgia. They enjoy sweets, and ice cream is one of the key comfort foods that help them regulate emotions.”

“They may be lively, imaginative, and excited about all celebrations – from children’s birthday parties to Easter and Christmas. They don’t believe that ice cream is only for summer,” she added.

Interestingly, two-thirds of the respondents admitted that they enjoy eating ice cream regardless of the weather outside.

Hemmings also pointed out that the speed at which you eat ice cream can reveal a lot about your personality. One-third of respondents admitted to eating ice cream too quickly.

In response, Hemmings commented that these individuals “may be energetic, impulsive, passionate, and lack patience. They seek dopamine stimulation for excitement and pleasure. At times, they may feel restless and use fast eating to soothe themselves.”

In contrast, people who eat ice cream slowly are highly purposeful and patient. “They focus on the overall sensory experience of eating ice cream – texture, flavor, aroma, and the comforting coldness.”

Craven added that he believes that some ice cream enthusiasts will relate to the personality traits mentioned by Hemmings and the study. “Regardless of how you eat it, the key is to enjoy.”
