In news dated May 2, 2024, bathrooms have always been prone to dampness, making them a breeding ground for harmful mold that can jeopardize health, and it can be difficult to completely get rid of mold. However, experts have suggested that using a certain alcohol beverage can swiftly eradicate mold and prevent their regrowth.
According to a report from the UK’s Daily Mirror, cleaning expert Joyce French stated that vodka can be used to immediately eliminate mold. By mixing vodka and water in a 1:1 ratio and spraying this mixture directly onto the mold-affected area using a spray bottle.
French recommends waiting approximately 15 minutes before wiping the area with a clean cloth. She said, “Vodka not only removes mold, but its alcohol content can also kill the mold spores, preventing them from regrowing.”
While using vodka can deliver impressive cleaning results, it may not be the most cost-effective method. Vodka can be purchased at most supermarkets or online, potentially at a slightly cheaper price.
However, if you happen to have some vodka on hand, it can be a great cleaning agent. Clear liquors such as vodka or white spirits can also be used to remove stains from carpets.
French advised, “First, wipe the stained area and then pour these clear liquors directly onto the stain, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, and then wipe it off again. You will see the stain vanish like magic.”
She mentioned that vodka can also be used to clean limescale in toilets, but that would be akin to pouring money down the drain, which is too wasteful.
Previously reported by the newspaper, mold can produce spores, which when inhaled by individuals, may lead to various issues such as rashes, headaches, and respiratory illnesses. High-risk groups include infants, the elderly, individuals with weakened immune systems, those sensitive or allergic to mold, and asthma patients who may have severe reactions to mold.
There are many types and colors of mold, with the most concerning being toxic black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum). Regardless of the type of mold present in your home, for the sake of health, it is crucial to promptly clean it upon discovery.
