Expand Cooperation: DoorDash to Deliver Grocery to 2700 Kroger Stores

On Monday, September 29th, American delivery service provider DoorDash and grocery chain Kroger announced that starting from October 1st, DoorDash will be offering delivery services to Kroger’s 2700 stores in the United States.

Headquartered in San Francisco, DoorDash is the largest delivery service provider in the United States. In 2020, they partnered with regional organic food chain Fresh Thyme and supercenter chain Meijer to launch grocery delivery services.

In 2022, DoorDash first collaborated with Kroger, starting from a few stores, delivering flowers, sushi, and deli items. This partnership gradually expanded to delivering sushi to 900 Kroger stores and flowers to 1700 Kroger stores. Starting from October 1st this year, all Kroger products will be available to DoorDash customers.

Yael Cosset, Chief Digital Officer of Kroger, stated that this expanded partnership will bring new customers to Kroger and simplify their lives. He mentioned in a statement, “Customers are looking for more convenient ways to shop at local Kroger stores, and delivery services are increasingly becoming an important way for them to interact with us.”

Prabir Adarkar, President and Chief Operating Officer of DoorDash, expressed that expanding cooperation with Kroger is a milestone for DoorDash, as Kroger will become their largest grocery partner on the app. DoorDash had previously provided delivery services for Walmart’s groceries, but their collaboration ended in 2022.

Based in Cincinnati, Kroger is the largest grocery chain in the United States with stores in 35 states and the District of Columbia. In addition to Kroger, they operate other chains including Ralphs, Smith’s, King Soopers, Fred Meyer, Harris Teeter, and Mariano’s.

Kroger also offers its own delivery service and collaborates with some of DoorDash’s delivery competitors, including delivery companies Instacart and Uber Eats.
