In May, the Orange County Taiwan Traditional Week event, which lasted for the entire month, was organized by the Orange County Taiwan Traditional Week Preparatory Committee in collaboration with overseas affairs advisory commissioners Lu Yaoxun, Lin Cuiyun, Huang Hefen, Xu Zhansheng, advisory consultant Zhang Xinzhu, and the Orange County Overseas Community Center. They also partnered with the Orange County Taiwan Association, Orange County Taiwan-American Chamber of Commerce, Orange County Chinese Lions Club, Orange County Chinese Business Association, Orange County Taiwan Physicians and Dentists Association, Taiwan Public Affairs Association Orange County Branch, and Taiwan-American Civic Association Elite Orange County Branch, among other Taiwanese-American organizations, to showcase the diverse cultural charm of Taiwan through technology, healthcare, music, culture, and sports.
The traditional week kicked off on May 4th with a keynote speech titled “The Unstoppable Trend of AI: Collaborating with Machines to Build an Intelligent Future” by Miss Li Jianyun from Nuwa Creation Company, exploring the development of AI technology and its impact on future living. The event also featured traditional Taiwanese cuisine, receiving enthusiastic responses from attendees.
On May 11th, Doctor Xu Zhengxiong and Doctor Zhang Yaowen led seminars on “Dental Care” and “Elderly Health,” respectively, providing practical health knowledge that was warmly welcomed by the elderly population.
The performance of “The Song of the Land” by the Formosa Circus troupe on May 21 presented a vivid portrayal of Taiwan’s historical and cultural development, captivating both local and foreign audiences and evoking strong feelings of nostalgia.
A “Taiwanese Classic Music Appreciation” event on May 25, featuring performances by the Song Tao Chamber Music Ensemble, Flute Harmony Duet, Irvine Huasheng Chorus, and Irvine Elderly Harmonica Orchestra, showcased the diversity of Taiwanese music. The dedicated practice of each ensemble member was acknowledged and praised by the audience.
On May 26, the “Tainan 400-Year City Building Photography Exhibition” and tourism lecture used photographs to help the audience gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s ancient cities and sparked interest in Taiwan tourism.
May 29 was marked by the “Angels Team Taiwan Day” event, where Ambassador Yu Da’an, the Ambassador to the United States, threw the ceremonial first pitch. The Wing Stars cheerleading squad delivered a spectacular performance, elevating the atmosphere and deepening the local community’s understanding of Taiwan’s unique baseball culture.
