The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that the European Commission has released the “Enhancing Europe’s Civilian and Military Preparedness Report,” which emphasizes the need for Europe to strengthen its resilience in dealing with threats from the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries. Taiwan, as a responsible member of the international community, will continue to collaborate with democratic partners to promote regional and global peace, prosperity, and stability.
The European Commission issued the report “Safe Together: Strengthening Europe’s Civilian and Military Preparedness and Readiness,” authored by Sauli Niinistö, a special advisor to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and former President of Finland, on October 30th. The report points out that the rapid rise of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has altered the strategic balance in the Indo-Pacific region. The CCP has not abandoned its ambitions towards Taiwan and has displayed assertive diplomatic and security policies towards countries in the region such as India, the Philippines, and Vietnam, escalating regional tensions.
The report warns that a Chinese invasion or any form of blockade against Taiwan would have severe repercussions on the economic, trade, and supply chains of Europe and the global community. Furthermore, it emphasizes the inseparable link between security and prosperity in the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions. Europe is urged to enhance communication and mutual learning with the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, Ukraine, and other countries facing complex threats, to collectively strengthen their ability to address and withstand threats.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expressed a warm welcome to the European Union’s continued concern for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region, as well as its willingness to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Taiwan. Taiwan, as a responsible member of the international community, will continue to collaborate with like-minded democratic partners in the European Union to defend the rules-based international order and promote regional and global peace, prosperity, and stability.
