Enhancing Civic Awareness and Participation through Series of Activities in Lee City’s Chinese Community

The Livingston Chinese Association held a launch ceremony for a series of new outreach events on April 28, inviting several state, county, and local community leaders to engage with attendees, with the aim of raising awareness and participation levels among citizens.

The focus of the seminar was on the crucial role of poll workers and the broader election process. Chris Durkin, the Essex County Clerk, and Carolyn Mazzucco, the Livingston City Clerk, participated in the seminar, introducing the responsibilities, application process, and benefits of poll workers.

New Jersey State Assemblywoman Rosy Bagolie, Essex County Commissioner Pat Sebold, and Livingston City Councilman Ketan Bhuptani also attended the event.

Deputy Mayor Ed Meinhardt delivered a brief speech at the meeting, expressing gratitude for the community’s engagement. Representatives from several important community organizations, including the Livingston Chinese Association, Livingston Hua Chinese School, Livingston Chinese School, and Living Stone Christian Church, were also present at the meeting.

Participants engaged in dialogues, discussing the roles and responsibilities of poll workers and community concerns such as the introduction of pickleball facilities and reminders to ensure vehicle safety during the Q&A session with the group members.

Fang Gong, a board member of the Livingston Chinese Association, stated, “Our group members not only shared their views on legislation and administration but also delved into their public service journey. This dialogue helps personalize these officials and fosters deeper connections between community members and elected representatives.”
