“Empowering Elderly Talents: Grandma’s Kitchen Skills Benefit the Community”

In Taiwan’s Nantou County, the “Yushi Community,” formerly known as Niushiqi, is situated at the foothills of Qialao Mountain. Over the years, the community has been facing aging population, increasing number of elderly with dementia, and the outflow of younger generations, leading to intergenerational care issues. The Yushi Community Development Association has been participating in the Ministry of Labor’s “Multiple Employment Development Program” in recent years, providing opportunities to acquire manpower resources. By collaborating with association volunteers, they are jointly developing local care and cultural industries, such as discovering talents among the elderly in the community, such as traditional cooking skills, hand-made paper, and planting, allowing the senior citizens in the community to also “give back” to the community.
