Starlink is owned by the American space exploration company SpaceX. SpaceX’s CEO is billionaire Elon Musk, who is also the CEO of electric car company Tesla and social media platform X.
Starlink is a low-cost, high-performance internet communication system built by SpaceX in the space orbit above Earth. To date, SpaceX has deployed nearly 1,900 satellites to provide services for its Starlink broadband network and is planning to launch more satellites.
On May 22, Reuters reported that SpaceX launched its first batch of spy satellites, a part of the new U.S. intelligence network aimed at significantly enhancing America’s space surveillance capabilities.
The report mentioned that SpaceX is building hundreds of satellites for the U.S. intelligence agency, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), to establish a massive system in orbit that can quickly detect ground targets almost anywhere in the world.
These satellites are the first batch of satellites that the U.S. plans to deploy this year, with long-time space and defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corp. also involved in the project.
Starlink played a crucial role in the Ukrainian resistance against the Russian invasion war.
