In a recent development, American billionaire Elon Musk has called on parents to boycott the American streaming service Netflix, citing its latest children’s program that he claimed is filled with a “transgender awakening agenda.”
Musk took to social media platform X on Wednesday, sharing an illustration related to Netflix. The illustration depicted Netflix as a Trojan horse carrying soldiers labeled as the “transgender awakening agenda,” being pushed towards a castle representing “your child.”
“For the health of your children, cancel Netflix,” Musk commented in response.
Just a day earlier, he criticized the animated series “Dead End, Paranormal Park” for featuring transgender storylines and themes.
“These contents are not acceptable for children,” Musk wrote in another post.
The program is advertised as suitable for children aged 7 and above and includes a character who identifies as transgender.
This character says, “I have never been so happy” and emphasizes, “Live a fantastic life, no apologies needed.”
Conservative individuals argue that these animated shows are promoting support for transgender individuals to children and accuse them of “misleading children.”
Musk revealed that he has canceled his Netflix subscription and referenced a previous post from “Dead End” creator Hamish Steele.
After conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally stabbed, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer sent a condolence message, calling the murder “heartbreaking” and advocating for civility and against political violence.
Steele responded to Starmer with profanity, labeling Kirk as a “random Nazi.”
Musk’s call to boycott Netflix quickly garnered responses from some conservative individuals, with many sharing screenshots of their canceled subscriptions on X.
Steele denied allegations of Netflix promoting the series and clarified that “Dead End, Paranormal Park” was an original series funded by Netflix but was canceled after airing two seasons.
In recent years, Netflix’s popularity and user base have skyrocketed, transforming from an online streaming platform into one of the world’s largest entertainment and sports program providers.
Da Ji Yuan Times has reached out to Netflix for comment on the situation.
Musk’s appeal comes amidst a widespread backlash in the American business sector against LGBT-related content and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies.
On October 1st, Netflix’s stock price experienced a 1.5% drop in pre-market trading.
It’s important to note that these events reflect the growing tension around the portrayal of such sensitive topics in children’s programming and the cultural impact of such decisions.
