Elderly man robbed on Chinatown subway platform by suspect who strangled him from behind

Police on Tuesday released the suspect in the robbery of a senior citizen at a subway station in Manhattan’s Chinatown, urging the public to provide leads to solve the case.

According to information released by the New York City Police Department’s DCPI, the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the 5th precinct of the NYPD. On Monday, around 11:15 a.m. on June 24, a 69-year-old male victim was waiting for a southbound R train at the Canal Street subway station when a dark-skinned male approached him from behind and attacked the elderly man.

Authorities said the attacker grabbed the victim by the neck and repeatedly punched him in the face while robbing him of his belongings. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, leaving the elderly man lightly injured. He was quickly taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital for treatment, where his condition is stable.
