Earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 hits Chiayi, Taiwan, maximum intensity of 4.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau has released earthquake information, reporting a 5.1 magnitude earthquake at 4:37 pm today (August 21). The quake occurred at a depth of 10.4 kilometers with its epicenter located 36.3 kilometers southeast of the Chiayi County Government (in Dapu Township, Chiayi County).

The highest seismic intensity recorded from this earthquake was level 4 in Chiayi County, Tainan City, and Kaohsiung City, while Yunlin County experienced level 3 shaking. The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan has determined that this earthquake is an aftershock of the January 21st Dapu earthquake, and there is a possibility of further aftershocks, with an estimated maximum intensity of around level 5.

The national-level alert of the Republic of China was issued at 4:37 pm today, indicating a significant earthquake in the southern region. As of now, there have been no reports of damage in Yunlin County, Chiayi County, or Tainan City.
