On June 23, incumbent State Assemblyman Ron Kim, running for reelection in the 40th District, visited a polling station in Flushing with his wife, three daughters, and in-laws to cast their votes. Kim expressed confidence in winning the election.
In the past week, the early voting turnout has been low, with most voters opting to cast their ballots on Election Day, which falls on Tuesday. Kim stated that a significant number of voters have pledged their support to him, indicating a promising Election Day. He is optimistic about his chances of winning the election and believes in a resounding victory.
“We have received more support from the Chinese community than ever before in the past 12 years. We have educated grassroots citizens about the work we have done, and they have come out to support me. I am very confident in the final outcome,” Kim said.
Kim’s wife is of Chinese descent, and his in-laws from Yunnan, China, joined him in campaigning. Mrs. Tan, Kim’s mother-in-law, shared that Kim’s father-in-law pursued his Ph.D. at Cornell University 40 years ago, where she later worked until retirement. They met Kim in 2010 and found him to be honest, friendly, and always willing to help. With Kim’s parents no longer alive, they consider themselves as his own parents and view him as their son.
Kim’s primary opponents within the party are Chen Yi and Yin Dao.
June 23 marked the end of a nine-day early voting period. According to the New York City Board of Elections, a total of 46,241 people cast early votes, with the highest numbers coming from Queens with 14,280, followed by Brooklyn with 13,424, Manhattan with 12,092, and the Bronx with 6,445.
