Serious Errors Found in Highway Signage in Hebei, Almost Causing an Accident
Recently, a serious error was discovered in the signage of a highway in Hebei, where a netizen following the guiding line and signs while driving narrowly avoided hitting a stone pier barrier. Thanks to the quick reaction of the netizen in making a timely turn, a potential accident was averted. The netizen later uploaded the video of the incident online, sparking attention and discussions.
According to the netizen, the incident occurred near the Shiheng Highway Toll Plaza in a chemical industrial park in Hebei province. The video footage shows that around 8 p.m. on July 19, the netizen was driving along the guiding line on the road when, upon entering a left side road at a fork in the road, they suddenly encountered a “dead-end road” sign: the road was blocked by a stone pier but without any warning signs or reflective markings indicating that the road was incomplete. The netizen swiftly turned the steering wheel to the right, causing the vehicle to tilt with the tires emitting intense friction noise, fortunately avoiding a collision.
Another netizen observed that there were clear skid marks on the road before entering the dividing island, indicating that previous vehicles had narrowly avoided collisions in that area.
In response to the incident, a staff member from the Shijiazhuang Highway Police’s 12122 hotline told the Xiaoxiang Morning Post on the 21st that the Hengxi Highway is a newly opened section where some areas are still under construction. They have already supervised the Zhao County detachment to make corrections, and they are currently formulating a rectification plan.
The personnel from the Zhao County detachment of the Shijiazhuang Highway Police stated that it was likely a mistake on the part of the construction unit, and they have already placed cones at the site and started rectifying the situation.
