Taiwanese artist Big S (Barbie Hsu) passed away suddenly in Japan in February due to complications from the flu and pneumonia, at the age of 48. On March 15, her ashes were laid to rest at the “Rose Garden” in Chin Pao Mountain in Taipei. On that day, a visibly thin Vic Chou held Big S’s ashes with a look of sadness, accompanying Big S’s family to bid her final farewell in the pouring rain.
According to Taiwanese media outlet “Apple Daily News,” on March 15, the family of Big S, including Vic Chou, Big S’s mother, their two children, Wang Xi Yue and Wang Xi Lin, and Little S and her husband, were seen in the heavy rain to send off Big S on her final journey, however, Big S’s ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, was not present.
Dressed in all black, the family of Big S bid her a tearful goodbye, following the tradition of “white-haired people do not send off black-haired people.” Vic Chou personally held the ashes and together with Xu Yajun’s sister, headed to the place to place the urn, while Little S stayed with Big S’s mother in the car.
Wearing a black suit and noticeably slim, Vic Chou was seen sobbing while carrying the urn, showing deep sorrow. The process from entering the Nikko Garden at 10:30 in the morning to the burial at the Rose Garden took about half an hour.
In early February, Big S traveled to Japan with her family and unfortunately contracted the flu and pneumonia leading to her passing. Little S, who was described crying until the corners of her mouth twitched during Big S’s burial, later responded to inquiries saying, “Thank you for your concern, everything went smoothly and perfectly.” After Big S’s sudden passing, the family remained in mourning and did not make any public appearances, with Little S even suspending all work activities.
Following Big S’s passing, her family initially planned for a tree burial in accordance with her wishes, but Vic Chou, unable to bear the thought, wanted a proper burial place where family and friends could visit and pay their respects. Close friend Jia Yongjie had previously revealed that she, along with Big S’s family, mother, Little S, as well as friends like Wu Peici, Aya, and Christine Fan, gathered at Big S’s home to share memories and organize a elegant and fitting farewell ceremony in the style of Big S.
Big S, born in 1976, rose to fame at the age of 17 when she and her younger sister Little S formed the singing group “ASOS.” Both sisters went on to host variety shows such as “Guess Guess Guess” and “100% Entertainment.” In 2001, Big S starred alongside the boy group F4 in “Meteor Garden,” gaining popularity across Asia for her role as Shan Cai in the series.
