DoorDash delivery drivers apply for $16.75 million settlement pay, deadline is September 30th

New York State Attorney General Letitia James urged all DoorDash current or former delivery drivers who have received notice and meet the settlement conditions to submit their applications by September 30, 2025, in order to receive their share of the $16.75 million “wage deductions” settlement fund.

In February this year, the Attorney General’s office investigation found that DoorDash had misled consumers and delivery drivers, known as Dashers, between May 2017 and September 2019 by subsidizing their base wages with the tips that were originally meant for the drivers, effectively pocketing the tips. The settlement fund will be fully reimbursed to the delivery drivers who were working in New York during that period.

“Delivery drivers in New York work tirelessly in various weather conditions and circumstances, and they are an indispensable part of our community,” stated Letitia James, emphasizing that all Dashers who have received the settlement notice should promptly apply to claim what is rightfully theirs.

According to the investigation, DoorDash’s wage system at that time allowed drivers to see a “base pay” before accepting an order, but the company factored in customer tips to offset the promised payment amount. For instance, if the platform guaranteed $5 for an order and the customer tipped $3, DoorDash would only pay $2, using the tip to reduce their own expenses. Additionally, DoorDash did not clearly disclose this practice to both drivers and consumers, instead claiming at checkout that “drivers would receive 100% of the tip,” while the details were buried in hard-to-find online instructions.

Approximately 63,000 delivery drivers who worked for DoorDash in New York City between May 2017 and September 2019 are eligible to apply for the settlement. Notices have been sent to eligible individuals via mail, email, or text messages detailing the application process and relevant information.

Drivers can submit their applications online through the third-party settlement administrator, Atticus Administration, at the website: https://www.nydoordashsettlement.com/
