On August 21st, during the third day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) held at the United Center in Chicago, DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison delivered a speech in support of Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. He shared his personal growth experiences and highlighted the uniqueness of America.
“I am not doing this for the title or to win elections,” said Jaime Harrison. “I am doing this because there are people like my great-grandparents who may not shine brightly in society.”
“They didn’t have college degrees, prestigious titles, or a lot of money, but these people helped shape the greatness of our country,” he continued.
“This is why I want you to understand that I will stay with this party, even if I don’t have the right to speak, because you are part of this country.”
Standing before the audience, Harrison emphasized that without their support, he wouldn’t have been able to overcome the hardships and obstacles he faced, nor pave the way for the younger generation.
Harrison believes that the spirit of the Democratic Party lies in the idea of “we won’t abandon anyone” and “we fight for everyone.”
He said, “Whether you are a newborn baby or an elderly person, this is our spirit, and that’s why I’m here today.”
Harrison pointed out that Democratic Party leaders value the people. “They see us, they hear us, but most importantly, they value us.”
Describing himself as the “little round-hand boy” from Orangeburg County, South Carolina, Harrison expressed confidence in winning the election.
At 48 years old, Jaime Harrison has been serving as the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) since 2021. Despite losing the Senate race in South Carolina in 2020, he demonstrated remarkable fundraising abilities, raising over $130 million, far exceeding his Republican opponent Lindsey Graham. President Biden appointed Harrison to lead the DNC in 2021.
After his speech at the convention, Harrison spoke with NTD’s host Kelly Wright about his personal growth experiences:
“I shared my story on the stage. I am the son of a single mother who gave birth to me at 16 years old, and I was raised by my grandparents.”
“My grandmother only had an eighth-grade education; she picked cotton and cleaned houses, while my grandfather worked on roads with only a fourth-grade education.”
“In my wildest dreams, I never imagined, and perhaps in their wildest dreams, they never imagined that their grandson and son would become a leading political figure on this planet. But this can only happen in this country, it can only happen here.”
Harrison expressed his support for Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign.
“Now, as an African American male, I know how challenging it is to strive and reach the pinnacle of success in this country, even more so for African American women, as they not only face their racial identity but also the fact that some people don’t believe women should do certain things,” he said.
“Joe Biden often says that what makes America so unique and special is that it is a land full of opportunity,” Harrison continued, “here everything is possible; we can do, we can become who we want to be. That’s why I can’t wait to see Kamala Harris become the next President of America.”
