Director of the Energy Bureau of Guangdong Province Wu Daowen fell from grace while in office

According to the news from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Chinese Communist Party on November 15, Wu Daowen, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province and Director of the Provincial Energy Bureau, is suspected of serious violations of law and is currently undergoing supervision investigation.

On November 5, Wu Daowen had attended a public event. According to the official WeChat account of “Guangdong Trade Promotion,” the Jamaica-China Business Summit was held in Kingston, where Wu Daowen participated in his capacity as Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and Director of the Provincial Energy Bureau.

Public information shows that Wu Daowen, 58 years old, had long served in Dongguan City, holding positions such as Chief Engineer of the Dongguan Municipal Construction Bureau, Deputy Director of the Construction Bureau, and Chief Engineer. In 2004, he became the Vice Mayor of Dongguan City, in 2014 he was promoted to Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and in 2018 he also took on the role of Director of the Provincial Energy Bureau, before the recent investigation.

Prior to Wu Daowen, several other officials from the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission have been investigated, including Wei Hongguang, former Party Secretary of the Commission, Zheng Renhao, former Party Secretary and Director of the Commission, and Cao Dahua, former Deputy Director of the Commission.

In addition, as of October this year, at least 22 officials from Guangdong Province have been taken down, with 19 under investigation, 2 convicted, and 1 dismissed from public office.
